‘Your Jiu-Jitsu Won’t Work in Our Fight’- Islam Makhachev Takes No Prisoners in Recent Call-Out of Charles Oliveira

It seems as though every lightweight fighter on the roster wants to square off against Charles Oliveira after his statement-making performance at UFC 274. ‘Do Bronx’ overcame adversity during fight week and from within the fight itself to ultimately come out on top against Justin Gaethje in a defining clash.

The sport of MMA moves quickly, and fans are already positioning the next fighter for Oliveira to face. The general consensus is that Russian ace Islam Makhachev is the top contender who deserves a title shot for his dominant run in the UFC thus far.

Moreover, Makhachev himself echoes the same sentiment, and he took exception to certain comments Charles Oliveira made recently when talking to MMA Fighting.

In the exclusive podcast appearance, Makhachev explained that he wanted to pit Islam Makhachev against Beneil Dariush in order to determine the next top contender in the division. Oliveira has also been fielding money fights against Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz as a potential option, and this wasn’t well-received by Islam Makhachev.

“it’s funny you calling out Nate who hasn’t won a fight in years and same time saying I have to earn something…just say it straight that you scared to lose., your jiu-jitsu won’t work in our fight and you know that.”

Islam Makhachev’s grappling skills are rivaled only by Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was his mentor in every sense of the word. Per Makhachev, Charles Oliveira’s lethal Brazilian jiu-jitsu game won’t be a threat to his smothering top pressure. However, ‘Do Bronx’ holds the record for the most submissions in UFC history for a reason and it’s hard to deny that he’s more than likely to put Makhachev in an uncomfortable position.

If Islam Makhachev indeed has to go through Beneil Dariush in order to fight for the belt, then his claim to being the most dangerous contender for Charles Oliveira will be actualized.
