“You Bring Yourself Back to Life”- Nate Diaz Explains Why He Refuses to Fight Conor McGregor on the Last Fight of His Current UFC Contract
Nate Diaz has been in the UFC for 15 years now. During that time, the younger Diaz brother has fought the very best the promotion has had to offer and witnessed the growth of the sport of MMA as well as the UFC to where it is now.
Both Nick and Nate Diaz had been fan favorites for a long time. However, Nate Diaz’s fight against Conor McGregor at UFC 196, elevated his status to a level seldom reached by UFC fighters. Diaz is without a doubt one of the biggest names in the sport and, according to him, he is also the highest-paid right after Conor McGregor.
Nate Diaz explains why he will not fight Conor McGregor
Keeping that in mind, it would make sense that Nate Diaz would want to fight McGregor for a third time. However, that is not the case. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani,i he revealed why he would not fight Conor McGregor. He said, “They don’t want to let me go, they don’t want to let me out of this contract because they want me to fight Conor. That’s what’s happening. They don’t want me out before finishing that fight. I am not fighting Conor McGregor right now. Our timelines aren’t matching up.”
Diaz continued, “You didn’t fight me when you were supposed to fight me, I am not fighting you right now. I am supposed to bring you back to life before I go? You bring yourself back to life then I will be back later cause I got sh*t to do. What’s he going to do? Fight someone that got knocked on their a** against a guy who got their leg a** broken all over the place and got knocked out the fight before?. I never got knocked out. I am still in the running.”
In the interview, Diaz also mentioned that the UFC is trying to lure him to stay by offering him more money each time they negotiate. However, Diaz does not want more money at this point in his career, he just wants out of his UFC contract.
