Gleyber Torres’ season at shortstop is done as the New York Yankees announced he will finish 2021 at second base after committing four errors in the past week.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Gio Urshela will take over at shortstop and DJ LeMahieu will switch to third base for the rest of the season.

“I talked to (Torres) today, and he feels ready to go there (at second base),” Boone said. “Hopefully it’s something that gives us the best look and sparks us a little bit.”

Torres has committed 18 errors on the season.

“There has been a weight and pressure to (shortstop) over the past week that I’ve certainly sensed with Gleyber,” Boone said. “He’s such a dynamic player for us when he’s going well. I feel like the switchover there might be something that really gets him rolling.”

Torres played 109 games at 2B during his rookie season in 2018 before splitting time between second and shortstop in 2019.

Torres, 24, is batting .252 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs on the season.

Despite going 2-8 in their past 10 games, the Yankees are in the thick of the American League wild-card race. Entering Monday’s games, the Yankees are one game out of the wild card.
