Yankees Domingo German Ejected Post “Extremely Sticky Substance” Check
The umpiring crew for the Twins-Yankees game on April 26 had to remind Domingo German to wash his hands twice after examining him for prohibited sticky substances, yet they still permitted him to continue playing three weeks earlier. In his start on Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays, he wasn’t as fortunate.
Yankees Domingo German Ejected Post “Extremely Sticky Substance” Check
Domingo German, a right-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees, was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays (NYY 6, TOR 3), but he denied breaking any MLB regulations regarding sticky substances. German struck out the first nine hitters he faced before being pulled from the game to begin the fourth inning. The inspection involved each of the four umpires.

German was dismissed for using a foreign substance, and as a result, he now faces a 10-game ban. He is qualified to file an appeal.
It’s unclear exactly what the substance was. Germán asserted that he had merely used the rosin bag, which is available at the back of the mound, following the Yankees’ 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

Germán’s hand was the “stickiest I’ve ever felt,” according to crew boss James Hoye, who also said it was “definitely not rosin.”

“I’ve got to apologize to my teammates and my team,” Germán said through an interpreter. “I’m putting them in a tough position right now. Understanding how much the bullpen has been used, and what my plan was for tonight to pitch, and putting them in a tough situation where I’m not pitching out there anymore.”

“It’s a tough spot. He was pitching great,” said Yankees captain Aaron Judge. “It’s something that we’ll definitely talk about over the next couple of days. I think quite a few people have been in his ear about it.”
