Yankees Carlos Rodon’s Responds To Fans Booing By Blowing A Kiss, Post Brutal Loss To Angels

After the second inning of Wednesday’s 7-3 defeat to the Angels at Angel Stadium, Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon was furious as he made his way to the first-base bench.

The Yankees were already behind 4-0 but desperately needed to win to finish a miserable road trip.

Rodon was upset with himself for walking a batter in the first inning, surrendering a home run, and then repeating the mistake in the second.

Wednesday’s loss at Angel Stadium completed a sweep as the Angels pounded Carlos Rodon and the Yankees were similarly powerless against a spot starter who had just been brought up from Triple-A.

Rodon, in his third start as a Yankee, gave up five walks and a pair of two-run homers across 4 ¹/₃ ineffective.

After the second pitch, Rodon turned around to head back to the bench after hearing some jeers. Additionally, he heard a Yankees supporter shouting at him in anger.

Despite his propensity for passion, Rodon has frequently improved as a pitcher. Those feelings appear to be flowing a little more negatively now that I have missed the most of the season thus far. When he was truly feeling anything but love, he was like tormenting the supporters by seeming to be experiencing it.

“I didn’t really pay mind to what was said, but a fan was angry, as he should be,” Rodon said. “I’m angry too. I’m angry with myself.”

Rodon kissed the heckler before entering the dugout because he was too furious to be silent.

“I guess it was the best reaction I could give,” he said. “It’s better not to give a reaction, I guess.”

His manager didn’t like it.

“I would like him not to do that,” Aaron Boone said. “He’s frustrated. I think probably (blowing a kiss) prevented him from doing something that he didn’t want to do, which is yell at a fan.”

When he returned from injury, Carlos Rodon was supposed to be the Yankees’ pitching staff’s savior, but that hasn’t occurred yet. Even though Gerrit Cole is having one of his finest seasons of his career, he cannot accomplish everything by himself. The Yankees might miss the playoffs if Rodon maintains his current rate of performance.
