Aaron Judge says that Jimmy Cordero’s Yankees teammates are ‘upset’ with him after MLB suspended him for the remainder of the season for breaching their domestic violence policy.

Yankees Aaron Judge Disappointed With Teammate Jimmy Cordero As He Gets Suspended For Domestic Violence

According to Major League Baseball, the right-hander from the Dominican Republic, age 31, will miss the remaining 76 games of the regular season as well as the postseason.

Jimmy Cordero, a pitcher for the Yankees, was given a season-long suspension by baseball commissioner Rob Manfred on Wednesday for breaking the rule against domestic abuse. His compensation decreases by $309,677.

The 31-year-old Judge, who has a toe injury and is on the disabled list, did not elaborate on the event, but he did say he is thinking of Cordero’s family.

“I talked with Jimmy about it. There’s still a lot of unknowns. We really don’t know what happened and what the incident is,” Judge said. “We just found out that he’s suspended for the rest of the year with domestic violence. It’s tough. Like I said, I have his family on my mind. It’s a terrible incident but we can move forward with it and hopefully he learns.

‘I was pretty upset,’ Judge said according to MLB.Com reporter Bryan Hoch. ‘I know a lot of guys on the team are upset. This is in the league’s hands, and the league handed down the suspension. Hopefully he learns from this and becomes a better person.

‘It’s a sad situation, just thinking about Cordero’s family and wife and kids. It’s a tough situation that you never, never want anybody to go through. There’s so many resources out there that he can use. Hopefully he started reaching out and doing that.’

After Domingo German received an 81-game penalty in 2020 and Aroldis Chapman had a 30-game suspension for an incident in 2016, Cordero is the third member of the Yankees to get a suspension under the league’s domestic violence policy, which went into effect in 2015.

18 players have been suspended for domestic abuse in the whole history of big league baseball.
