Howard is still the head coach at the institution, despite Sunday’s rumours that he would be leaving, according to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic.

Howard’s position became widely discussed. When a phoney account announced on Sunday night that assistant coach Phil Martelli would take over as temporary coach in place of Howard, that account was hacked.

As of Monday afternoon, Warde Manuel, Michigan’s athletic director, had not made any modifications concerning Howard’s most recent incident.

Brendan Quinn of The Athletic reported the following:

“A confrontation between Howard and longtime U-M strength and conditioning coach Jon Sanderson in a team practice late last week is being explored and going through a university review process. It is university procedure for such a review to be conducted outside of the athletic department.

Multiple sources say claims of punches being thrown in the aforementioned altercation are inaccurate.

Sanderson did not travel to lowa with the team for Michigan’s game at lowa today. He did not return a call for comment. According to a university source, Sanderson currently remains part of the program.

Worth noting: Juwan remains under a zero-tolerance policy instituted by U-M after striking a Wisconsin assistant coach in February 2022.”

Howard was banned for a handshake line incident with Wisconsin coach Greg Gard in 2022. After that, rumors started to circulate that Howard had gotten into a fist fight with someone in the team.

“Howard remains under a zero-tolerance policy instituted by U-M after striking a Wisconsin assistant coach in February 2022,” Quinn tweeted.

Juwan and the other person had an encounter that has been reported, even though there was no fistfight.

“A confrontation between Howard and longtime U-M strength and condition coach Jon Sanderson in a team practice late last week is being explored and going through a university review process,” Quinn reported.

Howard’s alleged outburst raised concerns about his employment position with Michigan. He damaged Michigan basketball’s reputation in December 2022 when the coach yelled at a referee so much that the players had to pull Howard back.

Not to mention the notorious post-game slap that Howard gave Wisconsin MBB coach Greg Gard in 2022.
