Plum finished with 26 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 36 minutes. She also had the opportunity to perform in front of new Aces minority owner Tom Brady. For the game, the former NFL player sat courtside next to majority owner Mark Davis.

Kelsey Plum, a Las Vegas Aces guard, has long been a fan of NFL star Tom Brady, who is now a minority owner of the team and was one of several celebrities who sat courtside for Game 1 of the 2023 WNBA Finals on Sunday. Plum took advantage of the chance during the Aces’ 99-82 victory over the New York Liberty.

“I looked at him and I said, ‘It’s about effing time you showed up,'” Plum said during her post-game press conference. “But what I love about him was he was just like, ‘You already know.’ Just super excited for his investment in our franchise and understanding what that means for us, and not just us, but the league. And putting eyes on us. I joke around, but man, it’s been awesome to have him and I know he cares.”

Plum was obviously joking with Brady when she took a shot at him from courtside, but the jokes virtually write themselves in this circumstance.

Not only does the WNBA fail to attract casual spectators, but the minority owner of a club will not attend a game until Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

In terms of Brady’s ownership of the Aces, the team and future Hall of Famer revealed on March 23 that he had bought an undefined percentage of the team. The WNBA’s owners delayed approval of the bought interest until October 2.
