Will Nahshon Wright prove valuable for the Dallas Cowboys?
It’s been just over a month since the 2021 NFL Draft ended, and the Dallas Cowboys received a slew of new players as a result. Time will prove which of the team’s picks turn to be serious contributors in the near future as we’ll have to wait a while before we see anything significant from them.
None of this is meant to diminish the rookie minicamp and OTA work that the young players have put in over the previous three weeks; everything they’ve done is crucial, but how they perform in actual games will be the ultimate scale for judging them.
Despite the fact that there are still no games to adequately evaluate, enough time has elapsed since the draft to allow us all to understand exactly what transpired.
Dallas defense diaries
The Cowboys’ priority heading into the 2021 NFL Draft was to strengthen their defense. The team’s first four choices were all defensive players, and they moved back to the third round with their last pick.
Nahshon Wright is one of my guys!
Had him in the 4th, but he’s my sleeper CB of this draft. Huge upside. 6’4 corner with 33” arms and 4.4 speed.

The Dallas Cowboys needed some help at cornerback, thus Wright was selected as the team’s second CB of the day on Day 2 of the draft. Despite the presence of other, more highly rated CB prospects on the board, the Cowboys thought Wright was a better match. Wright, who stands 6-foot-4 and has a wingspan of almost 33 inches, matches the mold of what new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn wanted in his Seattle corners.
Will Wright be Dallas’ first choice?
The Dallas Cowboys had one solid starting CB in Trevon Diggs coming into the night of the draft, and acquiring Wright offers depth to the position, but it comes after the No. 44 selection was used on Kentucky corner Kelvin Joseph.
For the Cowboys, Wright appears to be a bit of a project that they would want to improve, but the upside may have been too much to pass him up. It’s also tough to understand how Wright fits into the picture.
Dallas possesses Diggs, Anthony Brown, and Lewis, as well as Reggie Robinson II and Joseph, who were both selected in the fourth round last year. Wright will have to make a big impact if he wants to play in the secondary.
Is Nahshon Wright worth it?
Oregon State cornerback Nahshon Wright was certainly the choice that caused the greatest anxiety throughout the draft, and a lot of it was due to the fact that so many people had no idea who he was. But the Cowboys management clearly recognized who Wright was, and many have tried to learn as much as they can about him and his game since the pick.
Wright had a rocky start to his collegiate career before settling in with the Beavers. Wright led the club in interceptions and passes defended during his two seasons despite playing in only 18 games.
After learning more about Wright, many Dallas Cowboys supporters can see why the team, particularly defensive coordinator Quinn, has a thing for him. In almost every regard, he is exactly what the 50-year old has been looking for throughout his career, and we all hope Nahshon succeeds in Dallas.
Wright is unlikely to have many chances to showcase his worth on the field early in his career. Even yet, it appears that many have discovered that there is something to be thrilled about in the case of Nahshon Wright. And Dallas fans would certainly want him to be good beyond expectations.
