Will Julio Urias Return For 2024 Season? What Is The Suspension Period Sanctioned By MLB?

The locker of World Series-winning pitcher Julio Urias has been taken from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ clubhouse, and two murals of the player have been covered up at Dodger Stadium.

Urias was placed on indefinite administrative leave after being detained on suspicion of corporal harm to a spouse or cohabitant following LAFC’s defeat to Inter Miami at BMO Stadium on September 3. Since 2016, the left-hander has been a member of the Dodgers’ pitching staff.

In 2019, the pitcher’s devastating event looked to lose him his final shot with the Dodgers, compounding a situation involving Urias and domestic violence charges. Urias has been with the team since 2016, compiling a 60-25 record with a 3.11 ERA.

They appear to have already moved on.

Urias was arrested only two months before he was set to enter the free agency market as one of the best starting pitchers in this year’s class.

Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested on felony domestic violence charges Sunday night in Los Angeles, ESPN reported Monday.

The 27-year-old left-hander was arrested just after 11 p.m. PT, booked into jail at about 1 a.m. and released early Monday morning on $50,000 bond, per the report. He has a court date scheduled for Sept. 27.

“We are aware of an incident involving Julio Urias,” the Dodgers said in a statement. “While we attempt to learn all the facts, he will not be traveling with the team. The organization has no further comment at this time.”

Urias is 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA in 21 starts this season. He had been scheduled to start on Thursday night at Miami.

Major League Baseball is investigating Urias’ second domestic violence arrest in four years, according to ESPN.

How long will MLB suspend Julio Urias?

The United States possesses stringent laws that safeguard women from domestic abuse and penalize anybody who injures a spouse, former spouse, family member, or anyone in any other kind of connection.

Additionally, Major League Baseball has made it plain what its position is on the matter, and while the case is still being investigated and has not yet to a formal conclusion, insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic has reported that Major League Baseball’s punishment for Julio Urias may involve a significant suspension.

Put another way, that may imply that his time playing baseball in the US is up, and he should consider joining Japan or one of the two Mexican leagues instead.

The legislation stipulates that in addition to probation with constant monitoring in case he commits another offense, he can also be required to perform community service, enroll in an anger management program, and get a restraining order from the victim.

Despite not pressing charges, Urias has a history of violence after he shoved a lady to the ground in 2019. This indicates that the Sinaloa pitcher had no past records for a comparable offense, making it unlikely that he will be required to spend any jail time.
