Will Damian Lillard end his career without an NBA title?

Damian Lillard is one of the biggest stars of the modern NBA era, but will he end his career with an NBA crown to his name?

Portland TrailBlazers star Damian Lillard has been optimistic about his chances of winning the NBA title since his entry into the league. Lillard was drafted as the 6th pick for the TrailBlazers in 2012. 10 years later, his biggest accomplishment still lies in his six-All Star appearances.

Lillard has been one of the few stars in NBA to stick to the same team since being drafted. Another examples that come to mind are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Steph Curry. While the two men have won the NBA Championship in their careers now, Lillard is the sole man whose wait still goes on.

He has lead the Blazers to the postseason in the last 4 years. He has won Rookie of the Year in his debut year for an impressive performance overall. Lillard has openly admitted that he doesn’t wish to swap teams in order to increase his odds at winning an NBA ring. “I do want to win a championship but it’s other stuff that means more to me,” Lillard said. “It’s almost like I’m not willing to sell myself out for that.” (h/t SI)

Blazers GM Neil Olshey also signed big names like Yusuf Nurkic and Anfernee Simons retaining backcourt mate, C.J. McCollum. However, even McCollum decided to move to fresher pastures. He moved to the New Orleans Pelicans for forward Josh Hart, guards Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Tomas Satoransky and draft picks.

Lillard also was optimistic after signing coach Chauncey Billups, a former NBA player and LA Clippers assistant coach who replaced Terry Stotts after nine seasons. Despite the hope, the Blazers have simply not been able to reach the pinnacle of NBA glory.

While big names are remembered for their trophy cabinets, Lillard might end up ending his career with an empty shelf at home. The team needs to find quick solutions to make Blazers serious contenders in the West. Currently, they are 11th with a 21-33 record and aiming to reach the Play-In tournament.

The last few years of Lillard’s career will determine how great a legacy the star will have in history.
