Why the Kansas City Chiefs May Not Win Super Bowl LVII
The Kansas City Chiefs currently have the 3rd best odds of winning the championship, behind the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With a formidable offense behind one of the best QBs in the league with Patrick Mahomes and one of the best tight ends in Travis Kelce, it’s no wonder that they’re expected to perform. Their past consecutive Super Bowl appearances are nothing to scoff at, and it shows how the team’s experienced in a championship setting. However, there’s reason to believe that the Kansas City Chiefs may not win Super Bowl LVII, from losing one of their best offensive players to a shaky defense.
Who will step into Tyreek Hill’s shoes
One of the biggest hits to the Chiefs offense was losing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins. Last season, he has 111 catches and 1,239 receiving yards, leading 3rd and 7th in the NFL. His trade leaves a big hole in the offense that the team tries to fill up by employing other wide receivers like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore. However, it’ll be hard to replicate the impact he’s had on the team’s success. If, by any chance someone can do that, though, then the Chiefs will have an easier road than expected.
Chiefs are counting on Skyy Moore and Mecole Hardman to fill the large gap of Tyreek Hill’s talent
Chiefs Defense X factor
In addition, the Chiefs defense needs some work. The Chiefs’ defense ranked 24th in overall DVOA (team’s efficiency by comparing success on every single play to a league average based on situation and opponent) but still won 12 games and made it to the AFC title game because the offense ranked third. However, that was all with Hill. In addition, while Mahomes was 4th in both passing yards and touchdowns last season, he is coming off of his least efficient season. If that continues, it’ll make it hard for them to beat the other competition in the league vying for the Super Bowl.
