Why Did Giants’ Darius Slayton And Sterling Shepard Argue About At The Sidelines?
TV cameras panned in on the two wide receivers for the Giants as they engaged in a heated and impassioned conversation on the sidelines on Sunday.
Darius Slayton got into a heated argument with wide receivers coach Mike Groh during a third-quarter deficit of 28–7.

The Giants player with the oldest contract, Sterling Shepard, had a brief conversation with Slayton and the two seemed to exchange heated words.
What then transpired?
“I don’t know what the cameras caught, I’m sure it probably looked combative to me and him but it wasn’t in the moment,’’ Slayton said of his interaction with Groh. “I was just already worked up so I was talking emotionally. At that point we weren’t arguing back and forth, we were talking about the same thing, spiritedly.
The wheels are coming off.

“I just have to manage my emotions a little bit better in those scenarios.’’
Shepard said that he tried to soothe Slayton by approaching him.
“Just trying to motivate him to keep on going,’’ Shepard said. “It’s frustrating, obviously, you look at the scoreboard and how the game went down. I was just trying to motivate him to keep on going and fighting.

“Listen, that is like my brother, like my mother’s kids. It was straight me motivating him to go out there, that’s the honest truth.’’
Slayton declared that he was okay with Shepard taking over.
“Got a lot of love for him, spent the last three Thanksgivings at his house,” Slayton said. “There’s a lot of people on this earth I would have to yell at but he will never be one of them. He’s like my brother.”
Towards the conclusion of the first half, Saquon Barkley seemed to have an argument with head coach Brian Daboll. Barkley claimed that the reason was annoyance at a botched fourth-down convert.

“There was no argument, nothing like that,’’ Barkley said. “It happens. It’s football.’’
The Giants lost for the third consecutive game without a major performance from either Slayton or Shepard. On four receptions, the two wide receivers combined for 23 receiving yards and one score. All season long, New York’s meager offensive output has been their Achilles heel.
The last stat line was quite telling: the Cowboys totaled 640 yards while the faltering Giants could only muster 172 yards.
Dallas has defeated New York in both of their encounters this season by a total score of 89-17. In Week 1, the Cowboys defeated the Giants 40-0.

This event is merely another instance of Giants players and coaches seeming to be at odds this season, regardless of the degree of friction that existed between Slayton, Groh, and Shepard. Earlier in the season, Daboll expressed his annoyance with quarterback Daniel Jones, among other occasions.
