Troy Apke plays cornerback and special teams for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League in American football (NFL). In the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Washington selected him after he played college football for Penn State. Prior to switching to cornerback in 2021, Apke played free safety in college and for the first three seasons of his NFL career. Apke defeated Sean Davis during training camp to become the starting free safety in 2020.

Troy lost his starting spot after Week 5 as a result of his subpar performance to begin the season. He switched positions in 2021, becoming the first white NFL cornerback since Jason Sehorn in 2003. On March 17, 2022, Apke re-signed with the organization.

Entering his sixth NFL season and fifth in Washington is Apke (6-1, 205). He has made nine starts while playing in 50 games. Apke, a star on special teams, has helped Tress Way pin 22 punts within the 20-yard line in 2021.
