Following the pre-draft process, Mike Mayock of the NFL ranked David as the fourth-best outside linebacker prospect, Sports Illustrated ranked him as the tenth-best outside linebacker in the draft, and DraftScout.com ranked him as the third-best outside linebacker in the draft. David was chosen by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 58th overall pick in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
