Strus was added to the Boston Celtics Summer League roster despite being undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft. On October 22, 2019, Strus signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls after being released by the Celtics. On November 22, 2019, Strus played his first NBA game against the Miami Heat.

Strus and the Miami Heat agreed to a training camp agreement on November 30, 2020. Toward the end of training camp on December 19, 2020, the Heat changed his deal to a two-way deal. Strus joined the Heat on August 1st, 2021, for the NBA Summer League.

Max was born on 28 March 1996 in Hickory Hills, Illinois, United States to parents John Strus and Debra Strus. His mother Debra played basketball and volleyball at DePaul and was elected into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. John played college baseball as a pitcher for Eastern Illinois.
