On March 31, 2023, Peterman resigned with a one-year contract. On August 29, he was dismissed as part of the final roster changes, but on August 31, he signed again to remain on the active roster. He fought out veteran P. J. Walker to be designated the second-string option behind starter Justin Fields and ahead of undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent.

Peterman was let go again on September 20 and signed on again the following day. But before Week 4, he was dropped to the third string in favor of an increasingly potent Bagent. For the third time that season, Peterman was cut on October 5, but on October 9 he signed on to the practice squad.
