Highsmith signed with the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League through a local tryout after going undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft. The Philadelphia 76ers signed Highsmith to a two-way deal on January 8, 2019. He was required to play for both the Blue Coats and the 76ers as part of the agreement.

The same day, Highsmith made his NBA debut. Highsmith agreed to a customary 10-day contract with the Miami Heat on February 15, 2022. He agreed to a second 10-day contract ten days later. Highsmith agreed to a conventional contract to stay with the Heat when the second 10-day deal expired.
