With a club option for 2016, Schumaker agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds on November 18, 2013. He explained that his decision was influenced by their previous playoff success. The transaction was completed on November 26. A minor league deal with the Padres that included an invitation to the Major League spring training was signed by Schumaker in February 2016. Schumaker announced his resignation on March 9th.
