Soon after last week’s season finale, his wife Courtney Dyck gave birth to their second child, a girl. In late January 2019, their son, Chase, was born in Raleigh.
“I’ve had both my kids here now,” he said. “That’s a monumental life event. That’s something that will always hold Raleigh dear to me.”
Martinook signed a two-year, $4 million contract deal with the Carolina Hurricanes the same week his son was born.

On July 25, 1992, Martinook was born in Brandon, Manitoba. Because of his father’s work in the oil industry, he was reared in Leduc, Alberta, and became an avid supporter of the Edmonton Oilers. Martinook joined the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League after playing for the Leduc Oil Kings of the local Major Bantam Hockey League.
