Berti played baseball for the school’s baseball squad while he was a student at Troy High School in Troy, Michigan. In the 36th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft, the Oakland Athletics selected Berti, but he declined to contract. In order to play college baseball for the Bowling Green Falcons baseball squad, Berti enrolled at Bowling Green State University.[2] With a.423 batting average, 93 hits, and six triples, Berti tied the single-season mark for hits by a Falcons player. Another mark was his 17 triples in a career.

Berti was granted entry to spring training after signing a minor league deal with the Miami Marlins on December 3, 2018. His 2019 campaign got underway with the New Orleans Baby Cakes.
His contract was chosen, and he was added to the big league roster on April 20.
