He played college baseball for the Fightin’ Blue Hens while he was a student at the University of Delaware. Schneider was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 13th round of the 2002 draft after being selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 24th round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2001, but he did not sign.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats were one of three minor league teams at which Schneider played in 2006, although back surgery only allowed him to play in 34 games overall. Due to three concussions, he sustained during the 2007 minor league season, he decided to retire after that season.
