The eighth-seeded American Jessica Pegula defeated two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova in straight sets on Monday, moving through to the quarterfinals of the women’s singles competition at the US Open.

The American, 28, won the match 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 13 minutes to go to the US Open quarterfinals for the first time. Although Kvitova, 32, of the Czech Republic, served five double faults to Pegula’s none despite having 18 wins to her American opponent’s seven.

At Wimbledon, Jessica Pegula, who had advanced to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, was defeated. However, in the US Open fourth-round game, which was interrupted briefly by rain on Monday, Pegula came back strongly to seize control and went on to win six straight games.

Who is Jessica Peluga?

American tennis player Jessica Pegula competes professionally. On July 18, 2022, she attained a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 7, and on August 29, 2022, a career-high WTA doubles ranking of No. 6. She has won seven ITF doubles championships, one WTA Challenger doubles title, four WTA singles titles, and one WTA singles title.

She has made it to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament three times, twice in the Australian Open in 2021 and 2022 and once at the French Open in 2022. She has also placed in the final of a Grand Slam doubles tournament with colleague Coco Gauff, which happened at the 2022 French Open.

He is the proprietor of Pegula Sports and Entertainment, which together with his wife Kim Pegula controls the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills and the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. Kim also serves as the head of Pegula Sports and Entertainment, the holding company for the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres, the National Lacrosse League’s Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks, and the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans.

On Wednesday at the 2022 US Open, Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula will face off in a thrilling quarterfinal match. The top seed, Swiatek, increased her win-loss record for the season to an astounding 54-7 after defeating Jule Niemeier in her most recent match. The World No. 1 will now be aiming for a third Grand Slam victory after never progressing past the fourth round at the US Open.

Pegula is one win away from recording a Grand Slam performance that would be a career-high during her breakout season. Jessica Pegula is currently down 2-1 to Iga Swiatek in their head-to-head matchup. In their most recent encounter, the Pole won in straight sets in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.
