After spending four seasons with the Blackhawks as a free agency, Kampf accepted a two-year, $3 million deal to join the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 28, 2021.
Following a productive two seasons with the Maple Leafs, Kampf as a pending free agent opted to remain in Toronto by agreeing to a four-year, $9.6 million contract extension on 28 June 2023.

David’s wife is Eliška Kämpf. She announced on Instagram that her husband’s 323-game winning run was coming to an end.
Kampf was unable to play in his debut Leafs game on Saturday as a result. In addition, he had not missed a game in his previous five NHL seasons. And while the club lost 3-2 against the Hurricanes, they did play a reasonably clean game; yet, Toronto let up two goals on the power play, and Kampf is often a member of the team’s best penalty-killing unit.
