Contentious Connor Stalion, a staff member from Michigan, is still a national mystery.

The controversy surrounding Michigan’s alleged theft of opposing teams’ signage revolves around Stalions.

Allegedly, Stalions was on the Central Michigan sideline for the team’s season opener versus Michigan State, according to pictures that went viral earlier this week.

Amy Folan, the athletic director at Central Michigan, declared on Tuesday that the institution is looking into the situation.

“We became aware of these photos late yesterday and we are in the process of determining the facts surrounding them,” Folan said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

ESPN reports that Connor Stalions, an off-field commentator for Michigan, has been designated as a “person of interest” by the NCAA due to the ongoing investigation. According to ESPN, as part of the investigation, detectives even attempted to access the Stalions’ computer.

Despite being a “low-level staffer” at Michigan and a former captain in the USMC, Stalions is allegedly a key player in the NCAA investigation into the football team.

Stalions was charged with purchasing tickets to over thirty games featuring Michigan opponents, either on the schedule or in the future.

For the first time, the Stalions have been charged with being in the stands rather than on the sidelines against a prospective Michigan opponent, thanks to the Central Michigan claims.

Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of Michigan, has denied knowing about the alleged sign-stealing scheme, but according to the Wall Street Journal, university administrators have declined to extend Harbaugh’s contract.

On ESPN, “it was known in the building that [Stalions] spent much of his time deciphering opponents’ signals, often watching television copies of opponents’ games.”

Even though Stalions is an off-field consultant and works in the recruiting department, he has shared pictures of himself on the internet with two previous Michigan defensive coordinators.

As more information comes to light, Stalions prospects of running Michigan’s football program or even continuing to be a part of it in any manner seem to be dwindling. However, depending on how the sign-stealing inquiry turns out, he may very well have his name associated with the program indefinitely.

College football fans are eager to see if the NCAA or Big Ten would punish Michigan for any actions taken during the 2023 season. The Wolverines are moving on with the knowledge that they have a legitimate opportunity to win a national title even while the inquiry continues.
