Collin McHugh is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves during his career. McHugh was born on June 19, 1987, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in a baseball-loving family. He played college baseball at Berry College in Georgia before being drafted by the New York Mets in the 18th round of the 2008 MLB draft.

McHugh made his MLB debut with the Mets in 2012, but he struggled to find success in his limited opportunities. He was eventually waived by the Mets in 2013 and claimed by the Astros, who saw potential in the young pitcher. McHugh spent the 2013 season in the minor leagues before earning a spot in the Astros’ starting rotation in 2014.

That year, McHugh was one of the biggest surprises in baseball, going 11-9 with a 2.73 ERA in 25 starts. He finished fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting and helped lead the Astros to their first playoff appearance since 2005. McHugh followed up his breakout season with another solid campaign in 2015, going 19-7 with a 3.89 ERA and finishing fifth in AL Cy Young voting.
