Kirby Yates is a professional baseball pitcher who has established himself as one of the most dominant relievers in the game today. Born on March 25, 1987, in Hawaii, Yates attended Kauai High School before going on to play college baseball at Yavapai College in Arizona. He was later drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round of the 2009 MLB draft but did not sign with the team.
After spending several years in the minor leagues with various organizations, Yates finally made his Major League debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2014. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that he started to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with. That year, he posted a 1.78 ERA with 12 saves in 38 appearances and struck out 46 batters in just 35.1 innings pitched. It was clear that Yates had found his niche as a late-inning reliever.

Yates’ success can be attributed to his outstanding fastball and devastating splitter. His fastball averages around 93 mph, but he can reach back and hit 96-97 mph when he needs to. His splitter, on the other hand, is one of the best in the game. It dives down and away from right-handed hitters and has helped him rack up strikeouts at an incredible rate.
