Before passing away suddenly during a race weekend in Las Vegas, their father had won the Indianapolis 500 twice.

Now, the two boys want to become world championship drivers, just as their father did.

For Sebastian, the oldest, the previous year was significant as he began his first junior open-wheel racing season.

In his rookie season, the young talent did not let anyone down, winning the Skip Barber Formula Racing Series drivers’ championship in addition to six victories and thirteen podium finishes.

Sebastian said: “This season was important, knowing that it was my rookie year, and first time ever in single-seaters, and I was able to get the championship.”

Sebastian is getting ready to advance in his profession after taking home the driver’s title.

Now, he will compete in the USF Junior Series and follow in the footsteps of his father, who rose to racing fame in the late 1990s, by climbing a similar ladder.

Sebastian’s future appears bright thanks to corporate support, career guidance from Andretti, and the support of Dan’s championship-winning IndyCar squad.

Like Sebastian, his brother Oliver plans to go from karting to open-wheel racing.

Oliver is going to join a middle school and also participate in the Skip Barber Formula Racing Series for the first time.

When his father died, the younger sibling had only been alive for a few months.

In his debut season of open-wheel racing, Oliver aims to emulate his brother and win the driver’s title.

Oliver and Sebastian are both enrolled in the Andretti Autosport junior driver program.

In response to a question about the boys’ favorite win, Sebastian stated, “Last weekend, when I won by 10 seconds.”

Oliver added: “It’s the next race I’m going to win.”

Her widow is still committed to making sure Dan’s legacy endures more than ten years after his passing. She resides in St Petersburg.

Susie says it took her some time to come to terms with the fact that her boys wanted to race cars like their father.

Her kids’ desire to drive professionally was something she would never give up on.

She said: “I knew from an early point that if they ever wanted to do that … I would at least give them the opportunity.”

As she watches her sons dominate on a racetrack, the mother of two is now experiencing happiness of her own.

As the boys’ driving careers grow, Susie will have to make sure the Wheldon family stays organized and on schedule. It will be an exciting year for the family.

Through all of the highs and lows of the boys’ racing careers, Susie has been a rock for them.
