Which Teams Are Most Likely to Finish at the Bottom in the 2022 NFL Season?
The new NFL season is just a few days away and while a host of teams and their fans are excited for the season to start and watch their team perform, there are also a number of teams and their fan bases that are dreading the start of the new season. There are a few teams that look horribly prepared for the new season and look dead set on finishing last in the league.
However, finishing last might not be the worst thing in the world given the last placed team will get the first pick in the 2023 draft which will have an amazing depth of talent that the 2022 draft just did not have. Chief among them, a potentially generational talent in Will Anderson. So let’s take a look at the top five teams that look most likely to finish at the bottom of the table this NFL season.
Who will be the worst team in the NFL this season?
- Washington Commanders
On paper, the Commanders have an extremely weak team. However, something that works out to their advantage is that they have horrible fixtures early on in the season. In the first two game weeks, the Commanders take on the Jaguars and the Lions. Additionally, Carson Wentz joins the team after a horrible season last time out. But if he is able to avoid the same mistakes he made last season, the commanders could be a surprise with Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson catching passes.
The Seahawks have a gaping hole in their quarterback role, with Geno Smith edging out Drew Locke for the starting role. Unfortunately, neither player is capable of leading a team like the Seahawks that are very much at an influx right now. The first year without a franchise quarterback is an adjustment for any team, but for a team like Seattle that didn’t seem to have a plan of succession in place, the adjustment inevitably becomes more difficult to make.
Matt Ryan is a player who led the Falcons to their best years in the NFL since 1998. This off-season, Ryan left the Falcons in a split that was extremely messy. Therefore, just like the Seahawks, the Falcons do not have a cornerstone quarterback for the first time in many years. This leaves them exposed in offense and the defense is nothing to write home about either. Kyle Pitts remains the bright spot on offense, and he raises Atlanta’s floor. But it’s still dangerously close to ground level.
The only ray of hope in the Texans team is their quarterback Davis Mills, but the squad around him is horrendous. Even while playing the entire AFC South twice in a year and the NFC East, the Texans have the lowest projected win total in the league at 4.5, per DraftKings. Things are that bad. If Mills struggles this season, things are going to be extremely problematic for the Texans.
