Which NFL teams have been eliminated from playoff contention ahead of Week 14?

As we head into Week 14 of the 2022-23 NFL season, most teams are looking to book their spots into the playoffs. However, some teams have already been faced with elimination due to their own poor record or others in their division having pulled away from the rest of the pack. Nonetheless, the full field will not be decided at least until mid-January.

How many teams cannot qualify for the playoffs?

Going into Week 14, only two teams are guaranteed not to make it to the 2023 NFL postseason. They are the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans. Although there are 30 other teams still in the process of booking their spots for the playoffs, the Bears and Texans cannot mathematically make it to the next round.

The Chicago Bears currently have a 3-10 record and are at the bottom of the NFC North table heading into their weekend game against the Philadelphia Eagles. For the Bears, the main reason behind their elimination is their defense, which gave up the fourth-most points per game. However, the Bears will have a lot to look forward to next season as they have Justin Fields as their offensive weapon. The quarterback has looked very impressive over the past few weeks and looks set to remain at the franchise for next season.

The Houston Texans are entering Week 14 with a disastrous 1-10-1 record. With just one win and 10 defeats so far they have the worst record in the league this season.

Quarterback Davis Mills never really looked the part throughout the entire season. The Texans will need to have a good draft pick next year if they want to be serious challengers for a playoff berth.
