Where Will Bucs WR Mike Evans Land? Take A Look At Most Likely Teams He Will Sign

It seems that Evans’ time in Tampa could be coming to an end relatively soon.

Tampa’s transition may still be ongoing. The Buccaneers keep losing players who will be on their championship squad in 2020, much like a tree losing its leaves. Mike Evans, a key player on their Super Bowl squad, maybe leaving them soon. Evans’ attorney recently gave the Buccaneers until the start of the first week of the season to reach a contract extension with his client.

Where Will Bucs WR Mike Evans Land? Take A Look At Most Likely Teams He Will Sign

Evans has reportedly not gotten an offer from the Buccaneers despite his best efforts, so if he and the team cannot come to an agreement within the next week, the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver will be in line to test the open market. Additionally, the Buccaneers have the option of cutting their losses now and trading Evans before the NFL’s Oct. 31 deadline.

it seems that Evans’ time in Tampa could be coming to an end relatively soon.
Evans’ agent said on Friday that contract negotiations will end on September 9 (the Saturday before the Buccaneers’ season opener), but no deal was in sight. Evans will complete the 2023 campaign under his current arrangement if the two parties haven’t come to an agreement before then.

If the Buccaneers don’t extend Evans, might he become a trade candidate with Tampa Bay starting a new season? Which groups could be eager?

The franchise’s all-time career leader with 683 receptions for 10,425 yards and 81 touchdowns is Evans, who just turned 30. Evans is a very reliable player who set an NFL record by starting his career with nine straight seasons with 1,000 yards, a trend that will continue through the 2023 season.

New York Jets

When Corey Davis unexpectedly left the NFL last week, the New York Jets lost one potential player. Although Davis was only anticipated to be the fourth or fifth receiver for New York, his absence will have an impact on the team’s depth.

The 2023 season is all or nothing for the Jets; they must win the Super Bowl. Without making any other changes, they have the cap room to add Evans to their squad.

As Evans has previously flourished while playing with Tom Brady, getting along with Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t be a problem. Garrett Wilson, a rising star and the current Offensive Rookie of the Year, would benefit greatly from Evans’ mentoring.

The absence of picks from New York might make a deal more difficult because the Jets’ first and second round picks in 2024 are presently linked to the Aaron Rodgers transaction. Evans, though, may be the Jets’ lone weak link if they were able to reach an agreement with the Buccaneers.

New England Patriots

Given Bill Belichick’s track record of bringing in seasoned veterans for the Patriots, another layup. It helps that Evans is the ideal Belichick player: dedicated, dependable, successful, team-oriented, and a past Super Bowl champion. An adequate, albeit not outstanding, New England receiving group would benefit from Evans’ presence.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker, and Kendrick Bourne, the starting WR trio for New England, continue to be among the least imposing in the NFL. Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki on the field will let the Patriots to run a fair amount of “12” personnel, but Evans would change the way this offensive functions.

Evans’ ability to win the ball and move it down the field might help New England gain significant yards and free up space for the team’s other receiving options. He would immediately surpass all other wide receivers Mac Jones has ever worked with in the NFL.

Detroit Lions

Detroit never gave the idea of signing a free agent like DeAndre Hopkins this offseason any real thought. Denzel Mims, an ex-Jets wide receiver, was acquired through trade in July in an attempt to add WR depth, although he was only active for one month.

Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Lions, undoubtedly had the opportunity to become a head coach this summer if he so desired, but this might be his last campaign in Detroit. If the Lions want to make the most of Johnson’s outstanding work, they could fill out his unit by adding a dominant force like Evans.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs are without a doubt the two teams that suit best. These two juggernauts, who are arguably the top two clubs in the AFC, are in surprisingly comparable circumstances. Both teams have a superb quarterback, one outstanding receiving option, and then a ton of unanswered questions.

Given that Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes both have excellent stretch-the-field skills, Evans may be the second-best option in both systems. It’s likely that Tampa Bay will test their mettle in the weak NFC South and move Evans if/when they can’t. After that, his cap hit will decrease, making it conceivable for the Chiefs or Bills to sign him.

With Stefon Diggs and Evans providing complimentary skill sets, adding an experienced player like Evans would give the Bills one of the strongest one-two punches in the league. As the third wide receiver for Buffalo, Gabe Davis would be down one position, a position he may be more suited for.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens may be involved in a potential deal for Mike Evans. With Odell Beckham, Rashod Bateman, and Zay Flowers as wide receivers, the squad appears to be set on paper. The depth chart is in good shape if all of these players perform to the best of their abilities.

The squad will struggle if Beckham can’t go back to his previous form, Bateman can’t stay healthy, and Flowers performs like a rookie. Mike Evans is ultimately the ideal match for this offence because he offers a secure base with a high ceiling. This squad still needs a big-bodied red-zone danger like Evans, even if all three players perform well in 2023.
