“What You’re Hearing Probably Isn’t 100 % The Truth”- Dana White Shuts Down the Notion That Dustin Poirier Is Being Denied a Chance to Fight by the UFC
‘The Diamond’ Dustin Poirier last competed in the UFC in December 2021 when he took on Charles Oliveira for the lightweight belt. Unfortunately, things did not go to plan as ‘The Diamond’ was choked out for the second time in a title fight in his UFC career. Since the loss, Poirier has stated that he would like to move up in weight to 170-pounds to usher in a new chapter of his fighting career.
Unfortunately for Poirier as well as his fans, despite being healthy, the former interim champion has been sitting on the sidelines for the better part of 2022 now. The Louisiana native has been desperate to get back into the octagon, but the UFC has not booked him a fight till now.
In recent interviews, Dustin Poirier said, “These guys are offering me fights at the end of the year. I want to fight now. So I say If I fight 170 that doubles the chances of me getting a fight right now. I want to fight this summer. (says he wants to fight on July 30th and gives some personal reasons). I don’t want to wait to the end of the year and fight at 155. I’ll fight july 155 but if they can’t find somebody then I’ll fight at 170.”
Dana White rubbishes Dustin Poirier’s recent claims
In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, Dana White rubbished Dustin Poirier’s claims that he had not been receiving fight offers from the UFC. When asked why ‘The Diamond’ was not getting a fight despite wanting to fight he said, “I don’t think he’s getting shut off at every corner. I wouldn’t feel too bad for anybody. Listen, we make fights, I got to make fights, think about this I have to make three fights a year for everybody on the roster. So, nobody’s just sitting around going, ‘oh I can’t find a fight. Why can’t I get…”
White continued, “If I don’t keep my obligations to them, then I have to pay them without fighting. So, what would that tell you? I wouldn’t tell you that, but probably, it’s probably not what you’re hearing probably isn’t 100 % the truth.”
