What Teams Have Never Played in a Super Bowl?
The NFL is a storied league, with its creation dating all the way back to 1920. It didn’t have as much success in the beginning, as college football was more popular around its creation. However, with more professional franchises and players, the NFL soon became an American favorite. Throughout the years, different teams have been able to make appearances in the Super Bowl thanks to certain players and roster constructions. However, there are some that haven’t been as lucky. So, what teams have never played in a Super Bowl?
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are a relatively new team in the league compared to other teams. The Jaguars were founded in 1993 and they joined the NFL in 1995 as a franchise, the first season was a disaster for them with 4-12-0 overall. Tom Coughlin was the team’s head coach in the first season, but he continued in charge until 2002 and the Jaguars made the playoffs several times but lost two AFC Championships. The Jaguars recently played another Conference Championship game against the New England Patriots in 2017, after that season everything has been negative for them. The team has seven playoff appearances and three division championships. Besides that, the team has mostly been negative.

Houston Texans
Like the Jaguars, the Texans are a relatively new team. Established in 1999 to replace the Houston Oilers who relocated and became the Tennessee Titans, The Texans’ first eight seasons were chaos: the team just finished one of those seasons with positive numbers in 2009 with 9-7-0, and two seasons in 2007 and 2008 with 8-8-0 each. The team played six times in the playoffs and have also won six division championships.

Detroit Lions
The team is very old, and they actually won a championship. However, it was before the AFL-NFL merger and the creation of the Super Bowl in 1967. They won the “NFL Championship Game” 10 years prior. However, after that title, they never played in another Super Bowl. The Lions have over 20 playoff appearances but have a record of 9 consecutive losses in the playoffs since qualifying in 1991.

Cleveland Browns
Similar to the Lions, the Browns are an old franchise, and they reached a championship game, but again, it was the “NFL Championship Game” before the AFL-NFL merger and the Super Bowl creation in 1967. They went to the championship in 1964, but lost to the Vikings, and since then, they haven’t won a conference championship, let alone reached a Super Bowl. The Browns have 25 playoff appearances.
The Browns making the Super Bowl would be the NFL's worst nightmare. A six-game suspension where they play just one divisional game enables the Browns to stay in the mix.
