The 28th season of Major League Soccer in 2023 will be a season of firsts in a number of different ways.

The league will expand to 29 clubs with the addition of St. Louis City SC as the most recent expansion franchise.

A new playoff structure that will make its debut in 2023 has drawn mixed opinions since it radically alters the postseason landscape. Nine teams total from each conference will be eligible for the tournament, with seeds Nos. 1 through 7 moving on to the first round and Nos. 8 and 9 playing in a Wild Card round.

Apple paid $2.5 billion total for the rights package, according to The Athletic. That equates to $250,000,000 annually.

In addition to the streaming rights, MLS agreed to make all 29 clubs wear an Apple TV patch on their jerseys (with design varied by team color).

How long will Apple TV have rights for MLS games?

It will be a 10-year partnership under the current agreement – a significant timeframe considering how much the streaming market and league could evolve in the coming decade.

When does MLS Season Pass on Apple TV start?

The launch date for MLS Season Pass on Apple TV is February 1, 2023.

Watching MLS matches on Apple TV does not require a subscription to Apple TV+. The MLS Season Pass and Apple TV+ subscriptions are two separate services.

Fans who do not have an Apple TV+ subscription can subscribe to the Season Pass for $14.99 a month, or $99 for the year with the annual rate coming at a $21 discount compared to the monthly rate of $14.99.

There is a slight discount for Apple TV+ subscribers, who already pay $7 a month for AppleTV+ programming. They can pay an additional $12.99 per month for the Season Pass, or $79 for the year ($25 less compared to the monthly rate of $12.99).

A reminder that each matchweek, Apple TV will make six games available for free, which will not require a subscription to stream. That also includes the entire Opening Day slate, which will be available to stream for free on the platform.
