What Initially Went Wrong Between Josh McDaniels & Raiders, That Led To His Firing?

The now-fired Josh McDaniels is someone Tom Brady knows a great deal about. The two are well acquainted, since McDaniels served as his offensive coordinator for several years. Although he hasn’t directly experienced a head coach getting dismissed in the middle of the season, he is familiar with what it’s like to be in the locker room and experience that transition.

According to reports, McDaniels begged players and the leadership to have faith in him at this period, saying that if everyone believed in, things would finally turn around.

“Players know. And if all you’re ever telling them is, ‘I know better,’ you’re going to lose them pretty quick,” a source told ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

Owner of the Raiders Mark Davis sacked McDaniels last week due to a lack of buy-in and demands from the supporters for a change in leadership.

According to earlier accounts, a “intense” meeting between McDaniels and the squad during which the players voiced their complaints was the tipping point, leaving the coach humiliated and reduced to a shadow of his former self.

Due to players feeling “overworked in some cases,” general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels of the Raiders were sacked, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“The tone was set by the regime that if the lights were on in the building, people should be there working,” Fowler wrote.

“After asking around, I get the sense that people skills and culture were primary issues — and ones that essentially plagued McDaniels in two coaching stops.”

Tom Brady recently shared his thoughts on firing Josh McDaniels.

On the podcast “Let’s Go!” he discussed this:

“You got to be able to adapt and adjust and move on and the people that stepped in in their place, they got to go out and they got to put… It’s not like all the problems get solved when something like that happens.”
For the record, the Las Vegas Raiders responded with a dominant win after their head coach was fired.

Brady went on:

“People are making changes and the team has to adapt as well as possible. When a player leaves, coach gets fired, something happens to a family member and you got to adjust in your personal life.”

Brady made the point that the squad must still go out and play in the end. Not every opponent they play will be as hopeless as the New York Giants were on Sunday. Still, they must confront opponents.
