What Do We Know About Kanye West’s Donda Academy? Latest Updates!
Ye, the stage name for Kanye West, has had a turbulent month which affected his private school Donda Academy. Concerns regarding his mental health have been raised since he debuted his divisive “White Lives Matter” T-shirts during a YZY event (West has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder). He engaged in a number of anti-Semitic tirades and once promoted a murder-conspiracy claim involving George Floyd.
Ye has lost a lot of business relationships as a result, including his collaborations with Balenciaga, Gap, and Adidas. His enigmatic Christian private school, Donda Academy, purportedly informed parents via email on Wednesday that it would be closing for the remainder of the 2022–2023 academic year and would “begin afresh in 2023.” The Academy reportedly sent a follow-up message hours later stating that the school would be open.
Jaylen Brown feels it’s unfair for Donda Academy student-athletes to suffer consequences for circumstances out of their control.
Brown has offered to sponsor any event willing to take on the Academy still 🙏🏽

What is Donda Academy?
A K–12 private school called Donda Academy is situated in Southern California. Since it hasn’t been certified yet, college credit and certificate recognition may not be an option for graduating seniors. Ye described it as a “gospel school” in an interview with ABC News, emphasising the need to provide “students with practical tools that they need in a world post-iPhone creation.”
“So many schools are designed to prepare students for fields that don’t really matter anymore,” he concluded. He claimed the 82 pupils enrolled in the school, which is in its third year, could “really make your kids into, like, geniuses” through targeted tutoring. Students dress in baggy black T-shirts and sweatpants that have Ye’s approval.
UPDATE: Hours after the first email went out, a second email asked parents and students to "join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy."
It adds: "We are back and returning with a vengeance!" https://t.co/RpDuMi4C9x

What does Donda Academy teach?
According to Donda Academy’s website, students “learn fundamentals, grow in their religion, and experience two enrichment programs” at the ten-to-one student-to-teacher ratio school. Students begin the day with “whole school worship” before “core classes of language arts, math, and science,” according to a daily timetable. After lunch and recess, kids participate in “enrichment courses” such as “World Language, Visual Art, Film, Choir, and Parkour” in the afternoon. There are “Donda Rules” on the website as well, though it’s not clear if these apply to the real academy. For instance, Donda Rule No. 51 on the “How We Learn” page reads, “Students must be confident in generating ideas. Their writing will suffer if not.

Top basketball prospects enrolled at Donda Academy
A significant part of Donda Academy, which describes itself as “developing the next generation of athletes with an innovative approach to faith and collaboration,” is its basketball program.
Chuck Bailey, a three-star senior from Detroit, said on Twitter that he would be quitting the school in response to recent events.
“10 years ago, I sent my children to Donda Academy, an unaccredited cult school which ended up shutting down a month into the school year. They’re now 18 and 21. They now refuse to talk to me and say I destroyed their lives because they can’t read, write or do basic math. AITA?”

Robert Dillingham, a five-star senior and committed player for Kentucky, is the standout of the Doves roster. Dillingham, who is frequently ranked among the top 10 recruits, will probably look for another prep school to complete his high school education.
Donda also includes A.J. Johnson, who is ranked 15th in the class of 2023 by the 247Sports Composite rankings, and JJ Taylor, who is the 64th-ranked recruit by those same rankings.
Who is the coach for Donda Academy?
Dorell Wright, an 11-year NBA veteran, was chosen by Donda Academy to be its coach. Wright, a contributor to NBC Sports Bay Area’s coverage of the Warriors, is still silent on the matter.

What about the basketball team from Donda?
Donda Academy brought in many high school basketball players before the start of the academic year, including players from other states, but the team is disintegrating swiftly. Due to Ye’s antisemitic comments, Donda Academy was publicly informed that it would not be permitted to compete in the 2023 Hoophall Classic or the Play-by-Play Classic this year. The New York Times also noted that some of Donda’s top players are already being pursued by basketball academies and programs known for developing future collegiate players (and even NBA athletes).
Although it may be closed for the year, it appears still to accept applicants for the 2023–24 academic year. Tuition is $15,000 per year.
