What Did Jordan Poole Say That Triggered Draymond Green To Land A Punch Right Across His Face?

Draymond Green struck his then-Golden State Warriors teammate Jordan Poole in the face during a preseason session in the fall of 2022, unless you were living under a rock at the time.

What Did Jordan Poole Say That Triggered Draymond Green To Land A Punch Right Across His Face?

It was tremendous drama at the moment, and it remained throughout the season, although as a backdrop. The context was critical. Poole was up for a contract extension prior to the season, and with Green potentially in the final year of his own deal (he had a player option for 2023-24) and thus an impending free agent, there was a strong possibility that the Warriors would not commit long-term money to both.

Pablo Torre Finds Out, the new Meadowlark Media podcast hosted by Vivek Ramaswamy’s old Harvard classmate Pablo Torre is off to a hot start, and the show had a fitting heat check moment on Friday when Torre and Oscar-winner Ezra Edelman revealed what Jordan Poole said that caused Draymond Green to punch him in the face.

“You’re an expensive backpack for 30.” That is to say, Stephen Curry (No. 30) was carrying Green, who cost the Warriors more than $25 million last season.

That’s a well-crafted burn, and as Torre points out, it touches on a number of topics that would set Draymond off. Was it worth wrecking a dynasty only to acquire a one-liner?

Edelman receives a text message from a source detailing what Poole told Green. Torre is having dinner with Edelman when he receives the SMS message. That might come out as a little gossipy.

But, as you’ll hear at the 29-minute mark of the full interview below, Torre had a separate Warriors official “independently confirm” that “this phrase has in fact been floating around the [Warriors] organization as the tipping point, the thing that set off Draymond.”

Someone will most likely inquire about this during the Washington Wizards media day on October 2nd. And this is where things might go wrong, because Poole and Green have both failed to acknowledge what was said to escalate their disagreement to the point of violence.
