“We Don’t Give a Sh*t”- TJ Dillashaw Explains How Henry Cejudo’s Tactics to Get a Bigger Payday Did Not Work With the UFC
The bantamweight division is one of the most talent-stacked divisions in the UFC at the moment. The likes of Sandhagen, Sterling, Yan, and O’Malley make up an extremely interesting division that is only going to get more competitive with the likes of Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw looking to join in soon enough.
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, former champion TJ Dillashaw shared his thoughts on Cejudo’s impending return to action and what he made of his decision to return to the sport after two years away.
TJ Dillashaw envisions a rematch with Henry Cejudo down the line
He said, “I figured so, man. When he retired, I think it was kind of a ploy to try to get him to get paid more. That he was worth more than he was. But the UFC was like, we don’t give a sh**. No one likes him. Leave anyways, you know what I mean. So eventually I knew he was going to come back. I believe he’s a competitior; He’s a, you know, gold medalist and you know world champion in the UFC. So, he’s got that competition in his blood and he feels like he quit a little early, right? Like I said it was something to try to get paid more and it didn’t really work out for him so, he’s back.”
Dillashaw continued, “I can see him wanting to fight 45fers because there’s not as much threat for him to go and possibly lose at 45s and if Volkanovski gets the job done agianst Max, I think Cejudo is actually a very tough fight for him. If they give it to him….. if not he comes to 35s and that’s awesome. The chips are all kind of falling perfectly for me to avenge that one. It would be something I would love to do.”
Dillashaw and Cejudo are no strangers to each other. The two men fought in January 2019 when ‘Triple C’ secured a stoppage win in the first round. It was later discovered that Dillashaw entered the bout while being on banned substances.
