WATCH: Roquan Smith gets emotional in press conference after learning of Robert Quinn’s move to Eagles

On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles made a trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire Robert Quinn. Few people were as surprised as Roquan Smith when the trade took place. During his conversation with the media, Smith found out that the seasoned player had been acquired in a trade.

When asked about Quinn’s three years in Chicago, Smith hesitated and asked for a moment to gather his thoughts before answering. Smith finally left the news conference with his head in his T-shirt and walked away after hearing rumors and requests about a possible trade for himself. “Yes, sir,” “Sucks,” said Smith. That individual has earned a great deal of my respect. “Crazy, man.”

Since the Bears gave Quinn a contract worth $70 million over the course of five years in the offseason of 2020, the two players have worked together for the Bears. Smith had been selected in the first round in the past. Last season, Quinn set a new record for the franchise with 18.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss, both of which were career highs. In addition to that, he was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl for the third time and was given All-Pro honorable mention.

It is very clear that Quinn, who is now 32 years old, had a significant influence not just on his younger teammate but also on possibly quite a few others. Deals are so commonplace in today’s sports that it’s easy to forget that athletes are being transferred around and that their relationships will never be the same again. This is because trades are so commonplace in today’s sports.

Smith is likely thinking about the potential that he will be involved in a trade in the not-too-distant future. Few assets will be as movable as Smith, a two-time second-team All-Pro who will enter free agency this offseason after contract extension talks failed the previous offseason.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Bears are in selling mode at 3-4 with a young quarterback and an inexperienced head coach, and few assets will be as movable as Smith. The NFL trade deadline will still be in effect on Tuesday, November 1, at 4 p.m. Eastern Time, two days after the game that was scheduled between the Bears and the Dallas Cowboys.
