That would be the NFL’s tiniest stadium. The purpose of this new stadium, according to a source familiar with the issue, is not to be the largest. When the Commanders play their home games, though, they must create a “strong environment.”

According to stadiumsofprofootball.com, the Chicago Bears currently have the smallest stadium in the NFL. Soldier Field can hold 61,500 people. Smaller stadiums are clearly not an issue for Washington. For more than 30 years, it called RFK Stadium home. Around 57,000 people attended the event in Washington, D.C.

While the exact location has yet to be determined, Washington recently bought an option on land in Woodbridge, Virginia. It’s located about 23 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.

Washington’s proposal for the NFL franchise is for a 55,000-seat stadium

According to ESPN, the Commanders are exploring a 60,000-seat dome that could be utilized all year. The Commanders’ playing contract at FedExField is slated to end after the 2026 season, but it’s conceivable they’ll choose to stay in Maryland. Wright stated, “We are much more likely to create the smallest arena in the NFL than the largest.”

According to current stadium projections, 2,246 new employment will be produced during the construction of the new stadium. Manufacturing is expected to cost roughly $3 billion.

Washington is accustomed to playing at smaller venues. In its 59 years of existence, RFK Stadium housed roughly 55,000 seats. When it comes to professional stadiums, they likewise do not hesitate to attempt new things.

Meanwhile, back in 2016, they had designs for a stadium-wide moat. The medieval-style concept, on the other hand, did not come to completion. It demonstrated the ingenuity that went into the decision to create a new playing field.

More crucially, the club must determine which state it will play its games in. Before any stadium upgrades can begin, the team must decide whether to relocate to D.C. or stay in Maryland. However, whenever a new stadium is built, expect major modifications.
