Warriors Draymond Green Ejected: Stomped On The Chest Of Domantas Sabonis

In the second game of the NBA playoffs between the Warriors and the Kings on Monday, Golden State forward Draymond Green was dismissed for what seemed to be a stamp on Sacramento forward Domantas Sabonis’ chest.

Warriors Draymond Green Ejected: Stomped On The Chest Of Domantas Sabonis

Following a collision in the fourth quarter of the game, which the Kings ultimately won 114–106 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, Sabonis looked to wrap his arms around Green’s calf.

Green seemed to stamp on Sabonis’ chest as the Warriors sprinted the other way down the court with the ball, leaving the Lithuanian writhing on the ground in a lot of pain.

The King’s big man received a technical penalty for gripping Green’s leg after a protracted review by the referees, during which Sabonis spent the bulk of the time lying on the floor seeking treatment. Green received a flagrant 2 foul, which resulted in an immediate expulsion.

Green was the target of boos from the King’s supporters at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center; the 33-year-old inflamed those feelings by cupping his hand to his ear, flailing his hands, and stepping on a chair.

Green justified himself following the game, saying he thought a similar incident involving Sacramento’s Malik Monk in Game 1 of the series on Saturday was relevant.

“My leg got grabbed. The second time in two nights with the referees just watching,” he told reporters.

“I got to land my foot somewhere and I am not the most flexible person, so it’s not stretching that far. I can only step so far and pulling my leg away, so it is what it is.”

When asked what the referees had told him, Green said: “The explanation was I stomped too hard. It was Monk last game so either you’re going to stop it.

“(Referee) John Goble was looking at Monk hold my leg the last game and he just let it go, and Zach (Zarba) was clearly watching my leg get held this game and let it go, so I guess ankle grabbing  is okay.”

Later, Green shared a picture of the encounter with the caption: “Nothing wrong here. Solid basketball play!!”

After the win in which he scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Sabonis himself downplayed the event.

“We’re both fighting for the rebound,” Sabonis said in his postgame interview on TNT. “We fell on each other. Stuff happens. It’s basketball. We’ve got to move on to the next play.”

To ascertain whether the stamp had resulted in any major damage, Sabonis reportedly had X-rays on his ribs and lungs, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Wojnarowski subsequently tweeted that the results of the scans were negative.
