The 7-foot-5 French sensation was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft last Thursday.

The 19-year-old is the most anticipated prospect since LeBron James, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA Draft.

Prior to their trip to Las Vegas, the Spurs will play the Charlotte Hornets on Monday and the Los Angeles Lakers on the following Wednesday.

When they get there, they’ll begin summer league on July 7 against Brandon Miller, the Hornets’ second-round pick, and then on July 9, they’ll play the Portland Trail Blazers, whose third-round pick is Scoot Henderson.

The Spurs revealed their preparations for Wembanyama’s summer league on Wednesday.

“The Spurs say Victor Wembanyama will join their summer league team in Las Vegas but will not travel for the two games in Sacramento beforehand next week,” NBA insider Marc Stein tweeted. “San Antonio’s first summer league game is July 7 against Charlotte.”

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich told reporters following last Thursday’s selection that plan was for Wembanyama to play in summer league, but how much was still to be determined.

Wembanyama recently finished a full season in the French League, which included Finals games that came to a close one week before the NBA draft. Wembanyama said this week that he would skip the FIBA World Cup this summer so he could concentrate on getting ready for his rookie year. He made the announcement to the French publication L’Equipe.

Wembanyama will participate in this week’s summer league workouts with the Spurs before they depart for Sacramento on Saturday.
