UTSA Football Coach Jeff Traylor Ended Up Hurting Himself Using His Own Motivational Trick
This week, when attempting to inspire his players, UTSA coach Jeff Traylor literally used the phrase “Don’t eat the cheese.” The Roadrunners are now 4-3 after winning their past three games after getting out to a tough start at 1-3.

The Roadrunners won their third straight game on Saturday, defeating the Florida Atlantic Owls 36-10. UTSA had a rough start to the season, but during this winning streak, they appeared to have rediscovered their identity.
Traylor recognized an opportunity to ensure his squad maintained concentration throughout this turnaround by taking advantage of the swift recovery. While most coaches would just give their players a memorable motto to remember, Traylor used a more inventive approach.

While most coaches would just give their players a memorable motto to remember, Traylor used a more inventive approach.
Thus, he put a mouse trap in each player’s locker that had cheese on it. But Traylor didn’t realize there was a trap on the podium, and he wound up getting his finger stuck in one.
According to the theory, Traylor doesn’t want his players to take pride in their winning run and bask in all the praise. He wants them to set more ambitious objectives.

One of the players gave one to Jeff Traylor. He caught his hand in it and smashed his pinky.

Undoubtedly a brilliant idea that makes Mickey and Jerry Mouse salivate. However, things took a terrible turn because of a classmate’s cunning suggestion.
“We unloaded all of them, but one of my smart aleck seniors loaded his back up and put it on the podium where I speak to the kids and I put my hand there,” Traylor said.
Traylor laughed as he walked away, even though he had cut his pinky giving the squad a lesson.

“It looks like my pinky got smashed by a hammer,” Traylor said. “It would’ve killed a lesser man, but I’m okay.”
He took care to give his squad plenty of credit, though, so he wasn’t all negative.
“It’s just something silly to remind the kids, don’t listen to all the stuff,” Traylor said. “I’m so thrilled for them. No one deserves it more. It’s like a UTSA highlight video on ESPN right now. That’s a lot for young men.”
