Utah Jazz Listening to Trade Offers for Donovan Mitchell

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA insider and analyst for ESPN, the Utah Jazz are finally listening to trade offers for Donovan Mitchell.

This comes in the wake of the Jazz front office trading away center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a massive deal, where Gobert was sent for a multitude of players and picks.

In a recent interview, Jazz general manager Justin Zanik admitted that “I couldn’t sit here and say that anybody is untouchable”. However, they had expressed they didn’t want to lose Mitchell. According to teams that are looking to offer the Jazz, the asking price for the Jazz’s star point guard is very steep, but now they’re at least willing to listen to offers instead of dismissing them like they were previously. While Gobert’s trade can help build more of a supporting cast around Mitchell using the picks, it seems like there’s a greater possibility that the Jazz will completely overhaul the main players on the roster and create a completely different team that has greater contending ability.

Teams have reportedly prepared for Mitchell to request a trade, although he did admit after the Gobert trade that he wasn’t looking to force anything.

One of the teams that offered for Donovan Mitchell was the Miami Heat. The Heat has long been interested in acquiring Mitchell for their roster. However, when they offered for Mitchell a few weeks ago, the Jazz reported that they found the offer “insufficient” for them to give up Mitchell. Other teams Mitchell is interested in joining include the Knicks and Hawks. Mitchell signed a 5-year $163 million rookie contract extension in 2020. He has 3 more years left, with a player option on the 4th year, which gives limited leverage for him to be traded anyway.

For now, Mitchell’s set to play this season again with a new supporting cast, until reports indicate that the Jazz get a trade offer they just can’t refuse.
