‘Use Your Words’- Kamaru Usman Reveals ‘Disappointment’ in Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington for Their Street Altercation

The ever-fashionable Kamaru Usman stopped by the media desk as UFC 274 unfolded in the background and talked about the fight game. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is in the mix of it all as he fielded questions about boxing ace Canelo Alvarez as well as surging star Khamzat Chimaev.

However, fans would take note of Kamaru Usman’s interesting take about two fellow rivals and former opponents in Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington.

Masvidal and Covington were involved in an ugly street altercation in a Miami-based restaurant that ultimately led to Masvidal’s arrest. Eyewitness accounts placed ‘Gamebred’ at the scene as he bum-rushed friend-turned-foe Colby Covington and punched him. The attack led to Covington suffering a chipped tooth, as well as sustained damage to his Rolex watch.

Kamaru Usman weighs in on the ugly Masvidal-Covington street brawl

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has fought both the aforementioned Miami natives on two separate occasions, and he has defeated both men twice now. Keeping that in mind, Usman felt the need to reveal that he was ‘disappointed’ in the conduct that both men displayed.

However, he went on to further criticize Masvidal for taking his feud against Covington outside the cage and onto the street. ‘Gamebred’ had 25 minutes to land damaging blows on ‘Chaos’ Covington, but chose to ambush him outside a restaurant. Per his comments, Usman wasn’t on board with Masvidal’s actions.

“I was a little disappointed in that. I expressed my disappointment via Twitter. I was disappointed in what they did but at the end of the day, that’s how life goes. You say certain things that push certain buttons and certain guys react a certain way and we saw the result of that.”

“I don’t think anyone had the justification to do that… As a man, you should be able to use your words as your parents would say, but if you can’t, sign contracts in the UFC, step in the cage and handle business.”

Given the electric nature of their beef, Masvidal and Covington will most likely find themselves rematching each other in no time. However, they will first have to wait for the legal battle to unfold from the street altercation.
