UFC Veteran Donald Cerrone Still Looking to Face Joe Lauzon Despite UFC President Dana White Shutting Down a Third Booking

UFC fighter Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone spoke out following a second failed booking against fellow veteran Joe Lauzon that was set for UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs Emmett. ‘Cowboy’ pulled out of the first contest and it was Lauzon who revealed he couldn’t stand prior to the second booking that led to the second cancelation.

UFC President Dana White went on record at the post-fight presser and revealed that he wouldn’t be rebooking Cerrone vs Lauzon. In fact, he compared the scrap to the infamous Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson booking that was scraped on five separate occasions.

Donald Cerrone continues to chase Joe Lauzon fight

Despite Dana White’s words against rebooking the match-up, ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone expressed an interest to face Lauzon. He recognized Joe Lauzon as a crafty veteran who wouldn’t pull out of a fight unless it was absolutely necessary.

Keeping that in mind, Cerrone told ESPN that he’s looking to step in the cage against the veteran once his leg is healed.

“Joe texted me (on Saturday morning) and said, ‘Sorry, brother. I can’t stand on my leg,’ and I was like, ‘Well, we’re (1-1) now, ain’t we?’” Cerrone told ESPN. “Joe is a game dude, so it’s not like he’s making something up. I know Joe just wouldn’t pull anything, so heal up brother, and we’ll make it happen one day.”

“Of course (I’d like that fight),” Cerrone said. “I don’t know what’s wrong with his knee or how long it’s going to take, but we’re already in the talks. We’ll hear real soon.”

Cerrone brushes aside weight concerns

Donald Cerrone also assured fans that he weight was not an issue and that he’d foray down to the lightweight division if the fights make sense.

“They offered me one (fight) really soon, and I said, ‘We’re going to have to talk about a catchweight for sure.’ I’ve shown I can make the weight back-to-back, so it’s not the weight. So we’ll see.” [h/t mmajunkie.com]

Cerrone is a legend in the game and fans are now keen to see him take on big names from the past as compared to going toe-to-toe against the up-and-comers.
