UFC President Dana White Might Have Just Confirmed Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev for the Lightweight Title
In a rare instance of match-making during an interview, UFC President Dana White has suggested that lightweight star prospect Mateusz Gamrot should face off against Beneil Dariush in his next fight. ‘Gamer’ Gamrot secured a decision win over Arman Tsarukyan at the UFC Apex Facility and decided to call out Justin Gaethje in his post-fight interview.
Gaethje vs Gamrot would no doubt be an all-time great lightweight fight. However, UFC President Dana White has other ideas for the Polish fighter. He believes Gamrot would be better suited to facing off against Beneil Dariush when the latter decides to make a comeback to the UFC.

“The main event was high level. Incredible. I mean, just an amazing fight, and you’re talking about, what, number 11 and number 12 in that division. You know what I mean? So yeah, it was special.”
“Yeah, I think what I love is, I love Gamrot/Dariush when [Dariush] comes back.” [h/t bjpenn.com]
Dana White’s recent comments could be a subtle way of hinting at the fact that the UFC has moved on from re-booking Islam Makhachev vs Beneil Dariush as the number one contender match-up. Instead, Makhachev is surely set to get his wish and fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title against Charles Oliveira.
The lightweight division is a treasure trove of talent and it seems like matchmaking done in any way produces some high-octane match-ups. Dariush vs Gamrot would be a massive booking and would be a major step up in rankings for the former two-division KSW champion.
However, Gamrot is as tried and tested as they come and it’s no surprise that he’s on the threshold of UFC greatness with a few more wins. His body of work speaks for itself, and it’s going to be hard to deny him a title shot if he potentially blazes past Beneil Dariush.
However, Dariush is no slouch in his own right and he’ll want to prove that he truly is the next man up when he takes on his next opponent.
