UFC Commentator Michael Bisping on Why Alexander Volkanovski Is One Fight Away From Becoming the Featherweight GOAT

According to UFC commentator Michael Bisping, Conor McGregor’s iconic run through the featherweight division isn’t going to go down as one of the greatest ever. Per ‘The Count’, If Alexander Volkanovski managed to best Max Holloway for the third time in his upcoming trilogy bout, he will have the best featherweight resume of all time.

This is a massive statement, especially considering past featherweight royalty like Jose Aldo, amongst others who have shaped the division we know and love today. However, Max Holloway’s recent run simply can’t be ignored, and it’s likely that he’s chasing the path to all-time greatness.

While putting forth his assessment, Michael Bisping outlined the outstanding achievements of both Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo. However, he simply couldn’t look past what Alexander ‘The Great’ brings to the table.

Max Holloway is arguably one of the most formidable title challengers any champion can face right now, and Alexander Volkanovski has shown that he’s got what it takes to over a much larger foe in ‘Blessed’ Holloway.

“If Volkanovski pulls it off, he will then be, without a shadow of a doubt, the greatest featherweight that the UFC has ever seen,” Bisping said on his YouTube channel “Of course, that was Jose Aldo, ‘The King of Rio’. Then Conor McGregor knocked him out in 13 seconds, but he then never defended the belt. He vacated and then went up to 155. So therefore, whilst McGregor had a crazy run at 145, he doesn’t go down as one of the greats.”

“If Volkanovski gets the job done, he’s going to fight Charles Oliveira later this year,” Bisping added. “Double-champ, superfight, and I can’t wait for it.” [h/t mmajunkie.com]

Alexander Volkanovski is fresh off a scintillating win over ‘The Korean Zombie’ in his last fight and the hype behind him is real. However, the challenges that Max Holloway brings are unlike what many offer, and many fans believe ‘Blessed’ did enough to win the second fight in a rather decisive fashion.

It will all come down to whether Alexander Volkanovski can create enough separation to impose his offense against a masterful boxer like Holloway.
