UFC 284: Date, Location, How To Watch, Tickets, Fight Card And Betting Odds For 2023

The supermatch has begun. Islam Makhachev, the recently crowned UFC lightweight champion, will face featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in his first title defence, as per his desire. The two will square off on February 12 in Perth, Australia, according to the announcement made by the promotion on Saturday. UFC 284 begins with Islam Makhachev (C) vs. Alexander Volakaovski (C).

After defeating former champion Charles Oliveira in October to claim the vacant lightweight title, Makhachev (23-1) declared his intention to challenge Volkanovski there. After then, Volkanovski entered the ring and consented to the fight.

Makhachev has won 11 straight fights since his second UFC defeat, carrying out the goals set forth by his mentor and coach Khabib Nurmagomedov for him to become the next dominant Dagestani champion.

Volkanovski (25-1) is on his own amazing winning streak, having prevailed in 22 straight contests, including all 12 of his UFC fights. In order to win the featherweight championship, he fought Max Holloway in December 2019. He has since successfully defended the title four times, most recently defeating Holloway in a trilogy in July 2018.

Only six times have two UFC champions currently in the title picture squared battle inside the Octagon. In the most recent such match, which took place in March 2021, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was defeated by light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.
