Tyler Herro sets special NBA 3-point record by leading Miami Heat to victory over Houston Rockets

Tyler Herro, who helped the Miami Heat defeat the Houston Rockets 111-108 on Thursday night, stunned everyone by matching the Miami record with 10 3-pointers and scoring a career-high 41 points in the NBA.

In addition, Herro remarked that “I was only attempting to get 3s up” and that he had no intention of entering the record. He thinks making more 3-pointers is beneficial for the match.

“I didn’t know it was the record until last night when I hit nine, and they said I was one short,” Herro said. “I didn’t have any intention of coming in to tie the record, but I was just trying to get 3s up. I think shooting more 3s is helping.”

Tyler Herro’s 3-point record in NBA

Herro is the first player in NBA history to make at least nine three-pointers in two games on consecutive days, according to ESPN Stats & Info. He joins James Harden and Stephen Curry as the only players to ever make at least nine three-pointers in back-to-back games. Tyler Herro is on a record-breaking run, which is a remarkable accomplishment.

Herro also became the fourth Heat player to hit 10 3-pointers in a game, with Duncan Robinson doing so most recently on December 10, 2019. Herro did this the night after shooting nine 3-pointers and scoring 35 points in a victory over Oklahoma City.

“The last couple of games, that’s been really the scheme against him,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “That’s been open. But regardless, he’s too good of a shooter for us to not take 3s off the catch. He has to continue to be assertive in those opportunities. He’s just a brilliant shooter. He can do it off the dribble and off the catch.”

Herro scored 25 points in the first half, helping the Heat to a 37-point second quarter and a 14-point advantage at the break. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Herro passed Dwyane Wade to become the youngest Heat player to ever have a 40-point game at the age of 22 years, 329 days. Wade accomplished this feat at the age of 23 years, 87 days.

Caleb Martin scored 13 points, Jimmy Butler added 20 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Miami has improved to 15-15 after three straight victories.

The Heat’s performance has been impacted by injuries. With an ankle injury, Herro missed eight games in November. Already 11 games have passed with Jimmy Butler missing them. This is a huge loss and drawback for Heat.
